After All the Hype, Just 60% of Americans Will Celebrate Valentine's Day . . . Only St. Patrick's Day is Less Popular:
According to the National Retail Federation, only 60% of Americans plan on celebrating Valentine's Day this year. That makes it the SECOND LEAST POPULAR holiday, only ahead of St. Patrick's Day at 54.2%.
Their numbers only cover holidays we spend money on, though. So we can safely assume both of those holidays have more people celebrating than Groundhog Day, Flag Day, Secretaries' Day, and Talk Like a Pirate Day.
The Christmas-Hanukkah-Kwanzaa trifecta is number one most popular, with about 93% participation. July 4th is next, at 87.8%. Mother's Day is third, at 83%, Easter is fourth at 82% and Father's Day is fifth at 77%.
64% of Men Would Have Sex With Their Best Female Friend . . . 66% of Women Would Not Have Sex With Their Best Male Friend:
We've got a poll here that puts "When Harry Met Sally" into numbers. And it basically found that most guys want to have sex with their closest female friend . . . but the feeling isn't mutual.
The survey asked men and women if they'd consider having sex with their closest friend of the opposite sex. And men were THREE TIMES more likely than women to say definitely.
Overall, 33% of men said "definitely" and 31% said "probably." That means 64% of men are into the idea sex with their best friend.
Only 11% of women said "definitely" and only 23% said "probably." That means 66% of women are NOT into the idea of sex with their best friend.
Is the Beer Belly a Myth? And Can You Lose 17 Pounds a Year By Switching From Wine to Beer?
We've got good news and bad news. The good news: A new study has found that there's no such thing as a beer belly, and if you switch from wine to beer, you can lose 17 pounds a year!
The bad news? The study was sponsored by . . . the beer industry. So, ya know, they've got a horse in the race.
Dr. Kathryn O'Sullivan is the nutritionist who ran the study . . . again, on the beer industry's dime. And she found if you drink beer in moderation, it's no more likely to give you a big belly than drinking anything else.
Quote, "If you are a massive consumer of beer, you will of course put on weight. But if you are a massive consumer of wine, the same would be true." She says that's also true for other forms of alcohol . . . or even just juice.
AND, she says, if you're drinking two large glasses of wine every night, you could save 160 calories by switching to two 12-ounce bottles of beer. That adds up to almost 60,000 calories a year . . . or about 17 pounds.
