On Labor Day 2008 I was introduced to what I consider the best gym ever by my wife,
Ginny. It's called
BGI Fitness South. She had heard about it from her hair stylist,
Amy, who is a member.
We met with
Dana and
Todd Lynch, the Owners/Operators/Certified Trainers and they explained that their workouts combine Gymnastics, Weightlifting and Metabolic Conditioning exercises using functional movements. Each Workout of the Day (WOD)
changes daily so it doesn't become tedious or boring.
Classes are trained every hour from 6 AM til 7:15 PM Monday through Friday and Saturday 8 AM til 10AM. Each session is supervised by a certified instructor and starts with a group introduction, warm-up and a demonstration of the movements to be executed during the WOD.
They then put us through the paces of a Fitness Assessment. This included mostly old school exercises-push ups, sit ups, pull ups, air squats-getting in as many reps of each as possible in two minutes. There was also a 400 Meter run (which ended up being more walking than running).
We were impressed immediately. We decided to give BGI a shot.
The classes have been truly amazing. They are challenging. They are intense. They achieve the desired effect. And they are highly addictive. I have been going three or four days a week at 7:00 in the morning. I don't get up that early for anything.
