Yoko Ono called in today to talk about The Artwork of John Lennon, which will be on display February 22nd-24th at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts. It's not everyday you get to talk to Yoko Ono, so after talking about the art exhibit, we chatted about some other things, too!
The Mens Fashion Line
I keeping with the art theme, I brought up the line of menswear Yoko Ono debuted last year for Opening Ceremony, which is some pretty crazy stuff! The idea came from some drawings she did for John on their wedding day back in 1969 and she it's incredibly powerful to see the concept come to life. If you're wondering "why" something like an LED Jockstrap that is part of the line (and costs $200), and she said it was just "fun."
Why did you break up The Beatles?
That's a question many people wanted me to ask when they found out I would be talking to Yoko! If you remember, Paul McCartney came out last year and said she wasn't the one that broke up the band, but I still felt I should try to work in a form of that question. My in...a long lost interview from 1987 that surfaced at the end of last year in which Yoko described the bands' split as a "divorce." Unfortunately, she didn't remember the interview, but she did talk briefly about the subject! (listen to the clip below for her reaction)
Yoko On Fracking (a method used to extract natural gas from underground rock)
In 2012 Ono started the group Artists Against Fracking with her son, Sean Lennon, and they are currently trying to stop NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo from lifting the temporarily ban that is currently in place on it.
I asked her how the "Tweetstorm" they had on Twitter went on February 6th, and she said "no comment." I went on to ask if it was the lack of regulations or the Natural Gas industry as a whole they are opposed to, and she told me not to use the term "Natural Gas." If Yoko had it her way, she would change the name to "Poisonous Gas." (listen to that piece of the interview below).
I promised Yoko that I would put links up for everything, so you will find those below, along with a new video about the Fracking issue that was posted after we spoke.

NOTE: This was also the first time I've ever been put on hold by someone I was interviewing because they had another call coming in! Gotta love it! (Full interview below)
