This is the spot where I'm supposed to write something about myself. Here goes...
I'm originally from Northern West Virginia and started working in radio when I was in high school. I took a hiatus from the airwaves in the 90's to join the US Army Infantry. I was stationed in Hawaii (25th ID) and in Washington, D.c. (3rd Inf Reg-Old Guard).
When I got out of the Army, I did some work in TV, and then landed back on the air at Eagle 107.5. After spending 10 plus years there, I decided it was time to head south, and here I am...livin' the dream in South Florida on 98.7 The Gater!

If you were like me and thinking that Stone Temple Pilots is a "side gig" of sorts for Chester Bennington, you're just as wrong as I was! Dean DeLeo from STP called me out on that statement and told me that's not how Chester is approaching it at all.
Back in February the band fired Scott Weiland, and Chester is now handling lead vocals. Dean made it clear today that there is no chance of them ever bringing Scott back into the fold. I asked him to compare the vibe in the band now as opposed to a year ago and he said there is no comparison. "It's heaven and hell."
How did Chester get involved? Dean picked up the phone and called him. Yep, it was that simple. "This means a lot to him (Chester). This probably means more to him than us right now."
Dean went on to add that "Chester wants to honor not only the catalog and the legacy of this band (Stone Temple Pilots), but carve out a new legacy and a new place for people to listen and be moved by music. He is approaching this with everything he's got."
Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington's debut single "Out Of Time" reached the number one spot on both the Mediabase Active Rock and Mainstream Rock charts a couple weeks ago, and they are just about to finish up work on a new 5 song EP. Ben Gross is doing the mixing, and Dean said between that and mastering it should be done within the next 4-5 days. They don't have a name for the EP yet, but plan to release it in October of this year.
The band will be starting rehearsals on August 29th to get ready for their fall tour that kicks off September 4th in Bethlehem, PA. I asked about the set list, and Dean told me they are definitely going to play some stuff they either have never played before or stuff they haven't played in a long time. He also said that he's trying to get Chester to jump on the acoustic guitar!
